The HSE and local authorities are working together to check that businesses are COVID-secure. Find out the 2 key learning points so far for all businesses.

HSE Inspectors and local authority Environmental Health officers have been making unannounced visits to all types of businesses to check that they are following government guidelines and operating in a COVID-secure way. Being COVID-secure means that businesses need to put adjustments in place to manage the risk from coronavirus to protect workers, visitors and customers. All workplaces are in scope which means businesses of any size, in any sector can receive an unannounced call or visit.

Visits so far have revealed 2 common issues where businesses have failed to meet the required standard. To address these areas you must:

  1. Have and implement arrangements for monitoring, supervising and maintaining social distancing.
  2. Ensure there is an adequate cleaning regime particularly at busy times of the day and on common touchpoints.
